Which mini bike for a 3, 4 or 5 year old?

  • Flee PRM 300W electric: ultra-lightweight, very limited speed, dead-simple to start — the ideal first Mini Rider.
  • Coyote VX Mini Dirtbike: miniature motocross look, stable frame, perfect for 4-5 year olds building confidence.
  • DS67 49cc: 2-stroke petrol mini bike for a supervised first taste of petrol power.

For the next step towards ages 6-10, browse our little rider 6-10 years old and electric dirt bike for kids categories.

Electric or petrol for a 3-5 year old?

At this age, electric is generally recommended: quiet, no risk of burns on a hot engine, starts at the push of a button. A petrol mini bike like the DS67 remains an option from age 4-5 under strict supervision, for families already familiar with motocross.

Safety for the youngest riders

A helmet sized to the child, knee and elbow pads are essential even for a first mini bike. Constant adult supervision nearby is a must at this age. Browse our kids helmets.

At what age can a child start riding?

From age 3, a child can discover a suitable electric mini bike: speed limited to 5-10 km/h, very light weight, minimal seat height. The goal at this age isn't speed but balance and getting used to the handlebars and throttle.

How to choose the right size for a Mini Rider

The key criterion is that the child can place both feet flat on the ground while seated. Models in our Mini Rider category use 6" to 8" wheels and a low frame specifically designed for ages 3-5.

Maintaining a mini bike for young kids

For an electric model: recharge after every use, check tyre pressure. For a petrol model: check the 2-stroke fuel mix, clean the air filter regularly, inspect the rear brake. Parts are available in our parts section.
