Which quad bike for a 6, 8 or 10 year old?

  • Ages 6-7: a lightweight electric model or 49-70cc petrol, limited speed, compact frame.
  • Ages 8-9: the Arizona E-Start 110cc — electric start, automatic gearbox, ideal to grow into.
  • Age 10: the Kayo AT110 8" or the Typhon 125cc 7" — more power for experienced young riders.

For younger riders, browse our electric kids quad category; for teens, our teen rider quads category.

Electric or petrol kids quad: which to choose?

An electric kids quad is quiet, low maintenance, and starts at the push of a button — ideal for beginners. A petrol kids quad (49 to 125cc) offers greater range and an experience closer to classic motocross, but requires regular maintenance (oil changes, air filter).

Safety: what to know

All our kids quads are speed-limited and adjustable via a controller or mechanical restrictor, tailored to the rider's age and experience. Full-face helmet, gloves and protective gear are essential. Adult supervision is required at all times.

What quad size for your child's age?

The deciding factor isn't age alone but build: for ages 6-7, a quad with 6" wheels usually fits; for ages 8-9, 7-8" wheels; from age 10 onwards, 8" wheels with a longer frame like the Kayo AT110. Always check your child can comfortably touch the ground with both feet.

Power and speed: matching the rider's skill level

A first quad (ages 6-7) is typically limited to 15-20 km/h. Between ages 8 and 10, a speed of 25 to 40 km/h depending on the model and controller setting is appropriate. All our electric models feature progressive speed control; petrol models use an adjustable mechanical restrictor.

Maintenance: electric vs petrol

An electric kids quad requires: charging after every ride, tyre pressure checks, brake inspection. A petrol kids quad additionally requires: regular oil changes (10W-40), air filter cleaning, spark plug checks. Common parts are available in our parts section.
