Which trips suit a 50cc?

The 50cc suits the neighbourhood, the commute within town and small roads at moderate speed. Limited to 45 km/h, it is not made for fast roads: if your route includes any, look at the 125cc scooter. Without petrol, the electric scooter as a 50cc equivalent is the other option.

What to check before buying

Check the road approval and the engine type: a four-stroke needs oil changes, a two-stroke uses mixed oil or oil from a separate lubrication system. Look at the seat height, the weight (you move it by hand), the brakes and the storage under the seat. Helmet, gloves and clothing are chosen before the first ride: see the helmets.

1. Which licence do I need for a 50cc scooter?
The AM licence, or the B licence in countries where it covers this category. The minimum age is set by each country, usually between 14 and 16.
2. What is the top speed of a 50cc?
45 km/h. This is the limit of the moped category.
3. Should a 50cc be petrol or electric?
Petrol fills up in a few minutes at the pump and needs engine servicing. Electric charges from a socket, needs no oil change and suits trips of a known distance. See the electric scooter.
