The engine is a single-cylinder, air-cooled 2-stroke, rated by the manufacturer at 9 hp at 9,500 rpm. The ignition is CDI, and power is transmitted via a #420 chain. The transmission is automatic: there is no clutch to operate, which simplifies handling for beginners. The engine starts with a kick starter, without a starter battery.
